Turkeys. How often and what disease?

Undoubtedly, the health of the birds concerned not only farmers, but also ordinary breeders. Because of the disease of turkeys can cause considerable damage to the economy. However, panic is not necessary, to understand the initial symptoms of a disease and to avoid fatal consequences.

Respiratory mycoplasmosis. Usually affects turkeys in the cold season, when the immune system is weakened and in the body of a bird is lacking vitamin A and b, which is a consequence of malnutrition. The first symptoms are inflammation of the eye, blurred vision, discharge from the nose and mouth. The disease affects the pneumatic pouches, trachea, lungs and sinuses proarbol. Sick turkeys quickly lose weight, and in the absence of treatment, die. Often veterinarians prescribe chlortetracycline (40 gr. 100 kg of feed). The course of treatment is 7-8 days. In addition to these drugs, it is possible to use other antibiotics. If sick little turkeys treat water with tilan (0.5 oz. per 1 liter).

Smallpox is one of the infectious diseases of poultry. Become infected during contact of healthy birds with the patient, via contaminated feed and infected subjects. In adult turkeys is deteriorating egg production. If the disease flows exclusively in a leather form, the head, the coral and the legs appear round red pockmarks, which are later covered with a red-brown or bloody scabs. When they disappear, on their place there are scars or ulcers, prolonged healing. Dipteran form of smallpox has other symptoms – it affects the mucous membranes of the oral cavity, larynx, trachea and eyes. They appear yellowish spots, which later merge into one and form a solid friable film. In place of the removed film remain blood erosions and ulcers. Mortality in defterini form can reach 25-30%. Atypical form of smallpox – symptoms combination of leather and diferite forms, there is a mild conjunctivitis and the mucous membranes of the oral cavity, trachea and bronchi. The treatment is performed by a veterinarian, substandard of poultry carcasses disposed of, and the corpses of dead turkeys burned.

Tuberculosis. The disease affects not only the upper respiratory tract but also the lungs. Very quickly affects all livestock. Signs that a bird is ill is weak legs (falling while walking), loss of appetite and interest in environment, diarrhea, nodules on the skin, in the last stages of the disease the bird is almost not moving. Diseases affecting the internal organs, can not be treated, only the destruction of poultry and premises thorough disinfection, ventilation and direct sunlight, because the tubercle Bacillus can destroy only the intense sunlight.

Newcastle disease is a disease that leads to death of young animals. Not treated, however, as a prophylactic, should be vaccinated. Sore from all poultry stock. Feature of the disease is paralysis of the legs. In the early stages of development – diarrhoea yellow, gray or green in color with a very unpleasant odor. In addition, the goiter is stretched. Bird cannot walk and move his wings.

Glomnes – a disease that affects the liver. Typically, the disease occurs in the case of detention of turkeys along with chickens or geese because they get sick more often. The main symptom is orange-green diarrhea and weight loss, later the bird appears apathy. Prescribe furazolidone or osarsol. During the treatment the infected bird is isolated from other turkeys.

In order to prevent disease, we suggest the following:

  • give your birds fresh complete feed;
  • regularly to treat place poultry slaked lime or special funds that are in veterinary pharmacies, to protect them from viruses and infections;
  • to change the litter, in place of retention should not be drafts;
  • ventilate the room;
  • to maintain cleanliness of drinkers and feeders;
  • periodically vaccinated.
