THE EU HAS FINALLY APPROVED THE EXTENSION OF PREFERENTIAL TRADE WITH UKRAINE

The European Union has finally approved the “trade visa-free regime” for Ukraine. This means duty-free and quota-free trade for another year.
This was announced by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.

According to the European Commission’s website, the updated rules will come into force on June 6 and will be in effect until June 5, 2025.

According to the new rules, the European Commission can respond quickly and take measures it deems necessary in the event of serious problems on the EU market or one or more member states due to Ukrainian agricultural imports.

Safeguards are provided for poultry, eggs, oats, cereals, corn, and honey. If imports exceed average import volumes in the second half of 2021 and in 2022-2023, the tariffs may be reinstated.

As a reminder, the EU introduced autonomous measures for trade with Ukraine on June 4, 2022, to support Ukrainian producers and the economy as the country is forced to defend itself amid Russian aggression.
