Drought adjusts crop rotation: pea acreage has increased significantly in Odesa region
📌 Due to the dry conditions in the south of Odesa region, farmers have reduced the area under sunflower. Instead, they sowed more peas.
This was reported by Alla Stoyanova, a deputy of the Odesa Regional Council and chairman of the “Agrarians of Odesa Region” parliamentary group, Kurkul.com reports.
✔ For the first time, 68 thousand hectares of winter peas were sown in the region, and it is planned to sow about 40 thousand hectares of spring peas.
✔ In general, in 2024, the region plans to increase the acreage of grain, industrial, vegetable, melon and fodder crops. Early spring crops such as barley, peas, wheat and oats will cover 91.5 thousand hectares.
✔ Late grains are planned to be sown in the region: 150 thousand hectares of corn, 8 thousand hectares of millet, 8 thousand hectares of legumes (chickpeas and lentils), 5 thousand hectares of sorghum and 2.5 thousand hectares of rice. Among industrial crops, the largest planted areas are 420 thou hectares of sunflower, 25 thou hectares of oil flax, and 6.5 thou hectares of soybeans.
