Happy International Mother Language Day!
Today the world celebrates International Mother Language Day. Ukrainian is ❤️
In most cases, our ability to communicate with each other in a language we understand plays a huge role for us. Language and its variants not only serve as a tool for communication, but also open up great opportunities for us. A person grows up in the atmosphere of their mother tongue to the extent that it becomes an essential part of their personality.
Mother Language Day is primarily a manifestation of the interest of minorities who actively use their national language. The history of this holiday has tragic roots. On 21 February 1952, the authorities in Bangladesh brutally suppressed an uprising against a ban on the use of the Bengali language in the country. For Bangladesh, it became a day of remembrance for those who died for their mother tongue. The importance of new knowledge, values passed down from generation to generation, and the memory of one’s roots are all linked to the mother tongue.
The linguistic identity of our Nightingale language has been tried to be eliminated more than any other language. As Lina Kostenko states: “Nations do not die of a heart attack. First, their language is taken away from them.” On 21 February, Ukrainians congratulate their relatives and friends on the Day of their mother tongue, the Ukrainian language, with the aim of paying tribute to it, preserving the unity and strength of the Ukrainian people, which begin with the language.
So, we congratulate you on the International Mother Language Day and sincerely wish you to always love your country with all your heart and soul, be proud of your native language and celebrate your culture.
May language always remain a strong and powerful tool not only for communication but also for development. 💙💛
P.S. Did you know that most words in the Ukrainian language begin with the letter “P”?
