The main grain crop of Ukraine is wheat
The most widespread grain crop in Ukraine is winter wheat 🌾, the crops of which occupy, depending on the year, 6.4-7.3 million hectares of land. Up to 90% of its area is concentrated in the steppe and forest-steppe zones, and only about 10% is in the polyzone.
✅ Wheat 🌾 is used to make a valuable and cult product for Ukrainians – bread, so it is difficult to underestimate the importance of grain in the national economy. The quality of bakery products is determined by the grain composition. Among other grains, winter wheat contains the highest protein index, which reaches up to 15% depending on the production technology and variety. In addition, the grain is rich in carbohydrates and other important trace elements.
📌Winter wheat 🌾 varieties – hard and soft, their main difference is the level of hardness. In addition, they differ in starch and protein content.
📌And the classiness of wheat is determined by qualitative features 🌾. Yes, six classes are recognized:
🌾the first three classes (1, 2, 3) – grain for food of group A;
🌾 the next two (4 and 5) are grain for pasta products, non-food needs of group B;
🌾last class (6) – grain for feeding livestock – fodder.
The classification of quality indicators of wheat varies in different countries. There are no universally recognized standards in the world.
